I'm looking to get a sub for my first system, and while I've looked around some, I'm wondering what people would recommend for me. I have a very limited budget which is around $400 for everything. A few subs which I'm looking at are Alpine Type-Rs, Cerwin-Vega V-MAX, And Kicker Comp VRs.

Hopefully, I can find somthing that gets loud but doesn't sound like garbage, and maybe some suggestions on amps. Since I listen to lots of rap and rock, It looks like a ported box is the way to go.

That would be nice, but I can settle for one 12" at that price.

Not really - anything over 1000wrms might call for a upgraded alt .

what else is going with this set-up ?????

I already have an alpine deck and some kenwood speakers.

If I'm going with a ported box, are there any decent premade ones that will go nicely with the Type-R, or will I have to build one?

Easiest way to tell if your system needs more juice is if headlights start blinking ....

Go slot ported - U will have to go on Alpine's website tech pages & check the rec box volume & tuning freq .
A box for it online is about $50 so look for 1 made of 3/4 mdf ,with the rec vol & tuning freq .....

This looks like it will work, but I can't seem to find anything that is under the $100 range for boxes. Does anyone know where I might be able to get one for cheaper?

It might benefit you to learn how to build a box yourself because of how much it costs to buy and ship a box. Just a thought on my part.

The problem with the ones at sonicelectronix is that they don't say what the volume is them.
