i don't know why the second one is so cheap and if it'll be able to hand the 500w rms of the sub. the first one is 1.8 cubic feet, but the type r is supposed to be 1.0-1.75 in a ported. do i have to account for the actual room the sub will take up? Should i just drop these boxes and try to find something better?

yes you have to account for the space that the sub takes up.i say you should drop the boxes and find something better suited to your subs specs because those sub enclsuore dontl ist the tuning of the port. the 1st one could work if it listed the port tuning..But i still say build yor own enlsoure..you'll have better results if you build it yourself to the manufactuars specs.

BTW..totally drop the second box from your choice..it'll make the sub sound horrible

use MDF for the wood, most people use wood glue and a drywall screws to hold it togehter then go back and seal everything up inside with silicone caulk.

www.bcae1.com would be a good place for you to read...
