Gold Member Username: InvainMichigan United States Post Number: 2398 Registered: Aug-04 | No Shawn, that's not a SnailShell.... it's simply a ported box. The only way to find out the tune is to get all the measurements of the box: all box dimensions, port area, and length. |
Bronze Member Username: ShawnomakHB, SK Canada Post Number: 12 Registered: May-05 | alright, i looked again and that box says: Gross Cubic Volume .66 Cu Ft X 2 Tuning Frequency 34 Hz Dimensions W 31.5" x H 13.00" x TD 10.25" Weight 56 lbs Will this sound good or should i look for somthin else. I am building my own box so im just looknig for ideas right now |
Gold Member Username: InvainMichigan United States Post Number: 2402 Registered: Aug-04 | What size, and at what tune box does Infinity recommend those subs to be in? I'm not super familiar with Infinity subs, but .66 cf is pretty small for a ported box. Tuned to 34 hz isn't horrible though, it should sound alright. |
Bronze Member Username: ShawnomakHB, SK Canada Post Number: 13 Registered: May-05 | My subs are 12" Infinity 1230's and on the sheet that came with them, the drawing of a ported box is 2 ft cubed, a port that is 12.26" long and 4" wide and it sayd its 30.0Hz |
Gold Member Username: InvainMichigan United States Post Number: 2403 Registered: Aug-04 | The port tune would be fine on that box your looking at, but it's way too small. Your gonna need something much bigger than .66 cf if Infinity suggests 2 cubes. |
Bronze Member Username: ShawnomakHB, SK Canada Post Number: 14 Registered: May-05 | alright, ill build it bigger.. but how do i keep the 34 hz? |
Bronze Member Username: ShawnomakHB, SK Canada Post Number: 15 Registered: May-05 | this one is perfect...SUBZONE Model ZV212-2030 - Dual 12" Vented Enclosure, 11 1/8" woofer cutout - 2.0 cubic feet airspace, Box tuning - 30 Hz - Rectangular Vent for virtually no air turbulence - Recessed Baffle Panel finished in Black Texture - Terminal Cup with Gold Plated Binding Posts - Charcoal gray carpet - 3/4" MDF Construction - 16" h X 22 1/4" d X 34" w |
Gold Member Username: InvainMichigan United States Post Number: 2406 Registered: Aug-04 | Yeah, but is it 2 total, or per side? Infinity recommended 2 cf per driver. Your gonna need a ported box that has 4 cf, or 2 cf per chamber. |
Bronze Member Username: ShawnomakHB, SK Canada Post Number: 17 Registered: May-05 | 16" h X 22 1/4" d X 34" w.. is that 2 or 4 cubic feet? |
Bronze Member Username: ShawnomakHB, SK Canada Post Number: 18 Registered: May-05 | nevermind, i found out that its 2 ft per chamber and 4 total.. so thats good right? |
Gold Member Username: InvainMichigan United States Post Number: 2408 Registered: Aug-04 | 16" h X 22 1/4" d X 34" w is 6.93 cf, but you gotta subtract wood thickness and port volume. It shoulb be close to 2 cf per chamber. 2 cubes per chamber tuned to 30 hz should be perfect. |
Bronze Member Username: ShawnomakHB, SK Canada Post Number: 19 Registered: May-05 | I just did some figuring and I want to know if this sounds right... Outside Diameter is (W)= 22.25" (L)= 34" (H)= 16" So I took away 1.5" on each side for using ¾" MDF (3/4+3/4=1.5) Then I took away 3.5" for the port slots on the length and width, which leaves: (W)= 17.25" (L)= 29" (H)= 14.5" In feet that is: (W)= 1.437' (L)= 2.416' (H)= 1.208' ^ that is 4.19 ft cubed for the total and 2.09 ft cubed per chamber |
Bronze Member Username: ShawnomakHB, SK Canada Post Number: 20 Registered: May-05 | haha, i sound smart.. also to find the port size, i printed out the pic of the box and measures the length and the port size. On paper, the length was 4.8" and the port was .5"... .5/4.8 = x/34 17/4.8 = 3.54" |
