I have not seen anyone writing about BOSE speakers. I had AM 7 for more than 6 years and enjoyed a lot with a TEAC prologic Amp and a Sansui equalizer.

Now I am planning to buy BOSE AM 10 and 7.1 Amp and an equalizer.

Could someone please advice me on

1) Which amp to buy - Onkyo, Marantz, Denon or Yamaha?
2) What is the best to use with BOSE speakers?
3) When you add an EqualizerIs to the above, is there a big difference in music sound quality?

Please do not buy Bose. I'm not trying to start another forum war here, as happens everytime their name is mentioned.

For less money, you can get far more accurate and better sounding equipment. Here's an independant write up on their Acoustamass series -

http://www.intellexual.net/bose.html

I really can't say more than what that link says.

Keeping this in mind, no receiver, amp, or EQ is going to make them better. You can't make a speaker reproduce anything it's not physically capable of.

My advice is to come up with an overall budget amount, and post in the speakers section of this forum. I don't know what is available in your country, but I have no doubt that you can do significantly better with equal or less money than Bose charges. They aren't designed for people who know what to look for in speakers, they're designed for people who like the way they look and like to say they own a premium product (even though their's really nothing premium about them).

Thanks Stu. I believe I should check out further. Generally all brands are available here.

What can you say about receiver/amp. I have Onkyo, Marantz, Denon & Yamaha in mind. Really appreciate your feedback

Thank you for your advice too Berny. I think I should do that. It was just a matter of difficulty in finding some free time in this part of the world when you work on contract basis. Anyway I'll do my bets.

I am really happy that I found this site before I buy anything.

I went through so many Receiver selection forums and learnt a lot.

Hawk, Stu, Abe, Berny, Art & Gregory, you guys are amazing. not to forget others who had very valuable comments.

To make things easier, I'll indicate my budget and possible choices.

Usage 40% Music, 30% TV & 30 % Movie

Budget $ 1400
Receiver choices - Marantz, Rotel, Pioneer, Onkyo and Yamaha. (Outlaw not available)
Speakers - B & W, Athena, JBL & Polk Audio

Just to give you an idea about prices in here.

Bose AM 10 - $ 880 (Decided not to buy)
Yamaha 757 - $ 600

Please advice.

Andrew, thank-you for deciding against the Bose.
A dollar is a terrible thing to waste.

The list is good, please discount the Rotel for your usage.
As well, you might forget the Onkyo and the Yamaha, they are underpowered.

You now have Marantz and Pioneer. I might add Integra to that shorter list.

There are 3 that are worth looking at.
Oh and H/K. Thats 4.

These are the products that deliver what they say. Very very important.

Speaker-wise, the B&W might break the bank, unless yu look at 601's. BW are on a different scale, IMHO, the product meets your expectations as the pricetag escalates, the performance equals the curve.
The price starts kinda high, so does the product.

The Athena f2.2's have a favorable following for a good buck. Marry them with a H/K6xx receiver from an online dealer, and yo have room left for a sub.

This has been done a zillion times on the forum here, and has been successful almost always.

Eddie will respond with the Ascend package and rightly so, make sure to add a sub.

That much coin will get you a lot.

Good luck.
