I have an old Pioneer receiver that I got for free because the guy said it didn't work. He said he took it to two different places and they said that there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. So I plug it in, turn it on, and for about three seconds it seems to work fine until the display starts flashing POWEROFF and then it shuts itself off. I thought I'd start by asking here if anyone knew what the problem was, or have had any problems like this, before I go tearing it apart.
Open the cover, clean it, and look for cold solder joints. Check the resistance of the transformer. 'note' If you cant check the transformer, you should not be in there.
How old is this receiver? Also, is it a HT receiver (5.1 channel)? If it is a HT receiver, I suspect it is a software issue that can be solved by a repair depot for Pioneer that can re-flash the memory. Recognize that a HT receiver is a computer and these problems are the result of the operating system getting corrupted.
Yeah, it is a HT receiver with 5.1. I am not sure how old it is. The guy that gave it to me said that he was watching a DVD and it all of a sudden quit working. I only took it because I figured the problem was just a blown fuse or something that I could fix myself.
