Yamaha Rx-v2500 underpowered?

Unregistered guest
I love my new Rx-v2500. However, to power my anything (my surround system or even just 2 in/ceiling speakers) it seems like I really have to crank the volume. When playing a movie at a good volume level, I'm almost at 100%. I'm thinking that I have a setting wrong somewhere.

Just for kicks, I hooked up a lesser quality Yamaha, I think it was an Rx-450 and I didn't have to crank it anywhere near what I had to with the 2500.

Is this normal, or do you think I have something set up wrong? Do I need an amp or something?

Thanks for your help.

Your settings are probably screwed up somewhere. The 2500 is in a different league from the 450.....

There are so many ways to fine tune the sound, you can make it as quiet or loud as you want per a given volume level. Needless to say other characteristics.

The rx-v2500 volume range is from -80db to + 16.5 db I think. Taking the db settings from my older rx-v2300, (range -100db to 0db) -50db on the rx-v2300 seems to equate to -35db on the rx-v2500? It feels that way anyway.
