me and my neighbor were going to build a huge box. well, its huge compared to the subs. Its 6.5 cft tuned to 24HZ for 2 jl w1's. The frequency chart goes up to 30HZ at 0DB, then it goes straight accross and stays at 0DB. would that sound good? opinions please.

what size w1's?

alot of the time when you build large boxes, you start to loose the musical abilities of the subs. the sound starts to become 'muddy'.

they are 10's. But WINISD calculated it, so i thought it would sound nice. But i would hate to spend that much money on the box and have it suck.

yea...dont go that big for 2 10's...lmao

what is the Fs of those subs?

i would prolly try 3cuft (net) tuned to 30hz w/ 30sq inches of port.

i tried 1.5cft for 1 jl tuned to 33 and it sucked really bad. I could barely hear the bass. it made me mad.

going bigger will only help it get loud so much.. it will mainly improve the low end bass

w1's are only 150wrms subs...they are not going to give you super loud, pound the hell out of ya bass. they will give you some nice low end to complment your mids though.

what voice coils do your subs have?
what amp do you have?
what car is this going in?

2.5-3cuft tuned to 30-35hz should be perfect for 2 10" w1's.

they are not going to be all that loud...prolly ~128-130dB in car at peak freq. (the pair)

those are entry level subs that are made to sound good...not get real loud.

also, if you are talking about a jeep cherokee...that is alot of air to move in that vehicle, they are not easy to get loud. i have a friend w/ 2 pioneer premier 12's on 2400wrms and he is only doing ~144dB.

this is kinda off topic but i was thinking if you want to make a bigass box, just use a old fridge, i mean my fridge is 22cf and thats with all the draws and everything in it, so take all that out and it would probally be around 28-30cf, then just cut a hole in the top of it mount the sub, find some way to seal the door, and poof you have one huge box that you didn't even have to build.LOL

those subs would prolly sound pretty crappy in a 6.5cuft vented box. plus, w/ 300w you would be driving them way outside of xmax in a box that big.

ok, here is what i did. i got the front panel board off my crappy jl box. then i put it on my eclipse box, which happens to be 3cft. and it is tuned to 30HZ. It didnt take much power, but it sounded awsome. I think 6.5 will be good. When my eclipse was in there it would only get real loud around 40hz. but the jl does good in all aorund.
