Gold Member Username: James1115Wilton, Ct Post Number: 3447 Registered: Dec-04 | Kicker 1200.1 |
Chris Brewer Unregistered guest | I was thinking somewhere below 400 |

Chris Brewer Unregistered guest | I thought about the 1200.1 but it is 1200 RMS at 1 ohm and the L7 is 1500 max |
Gold Member Username: HdubbFarmington, Nm Usa Post Number: 1890 Registered: Nov-04 | listen to the old man. he knows. |
Gold Member Username: James1115Wilton, Ct Post Number: 3453 Registered: Dec-04 | its rated at 12 volts. a birth sheet on it will be somewhere right around 1500 watts at 14.4 volts. |
Chris Brewer Unregistered guest | You don't think that around 900 watts over the recommended peak power is a little to much power? |
Gold Member Username: HdubbFarmington, Nm Usa Post Number: 1893 Registered: Nov-04 | well your car wont do 14.4, usually. it will do about 13.8 and just be easy on the levels and what not |
Chris Brewer Unregistered guest | how did you figure that out? I thought that the rms was around half of the peak. But I didn't know you could figure out the power output by the volts it is at. |
Chris Brewer Unregistered guest | I didn't know you could figure out the power output by the volts |
Chris Brewer Unregistered guest | do you recommend any other amps? |
Gold Member Username: James1115Wilton, Ct Post Number: 3456 Registered: Dec-04 | dude my bad I thought you were running two of them man I am sorry. Kicker 600.1 |
Gold Member Username: HdubbFarmington, Nm Usa Post Number: 1894 Registered: Nov-04 | yep. i dont know the equation off the top of my head, but rough estimates usually work. so it will do right around 1350 at 13.8 volts. |
Gold Member Username: HdubbFarmington, Nm Usa Post Number: 1895 Registered: Nov-04 | idk. i like headroom and if you ever want to add another id still go with the 1200 |
Chris Brewer Unregistered guest | oh, all right, but i've heard that L7s sound better with more power then recommended. What do you think? |
Gold Member Username: InvainMichigan United States Post Number: 2899 Registered: Aug-04 | MTX Thunder942 700 watts rms @ 4 ohms bridged @ 12.5 volts |
Chris Brewer Unregistered guest | Do you think that the sub is better at 1 or 4 ohms? I was told that the lower the ohms the better, is this true? |
Gold Member Username: InvainMichigan United States Post Number: 2900 Registered: Aug-04 | The higher the ohms the better. The amp will run cooler, and will have a better damping factor. |
Gold Member Username: HdubbFarmington, Nm Usa Post Number: 1896 Registered: Nov-04 | yeah i like 4 better then 1 myself |
Chris Brewer Unregistered guest | No I mean does the sub hit harder at lower ohms? |
Gold Member Username: HdubbFarmington, Nm Usa Post Number: 1897 Registered: Nov-04 | no |
Chris Brewer Unregistered guest | why do people wire their subs down to lower ohms then? What is the point? I have heard of people wiring their systems down lower than .5 ohms. |
Gold Member Username: James1115Wilton, Ct Post Number: 3457 Registered: Dec-04 | if you have not gotten the sub already get dual 4ohm and get the kicker 1200.1. This way you will get 600 watts at 2ohms and if you ever want to add another you can wire it to 1 ohm and have 1200 watts. |
Chris Brewer Unregistered guest | It will be a while until I can save up enough money to get an amp but what kind of box do you recommend for it? I was thinking of a vented box. What do you think? |
New member Username: Livinloud7Post Number: 8 Registered: Jun-05 | The reason is that when you lower the impedance, you are creating less resistance, and are allowing more power. Most ratings on subs/amps are at 4Ohms. They can be lowered, but should match impedance wise. Certain amps only go below a certain impedance level, so dont wire your system for 1 Ohms, if your amp isnt even 1 ohms stable. |
