6 ohm speaker question

I hope this is the right forum to post this in. I'm doing a whole house audio project and I'm using an 8 ohm receiver and 8 ohm speakers except that I've got an old 6 ohm pair that I was going to put in the garage. I've got impedance matching volume controls that state that they are rated for 4,8 and 16 ohm speakers. Since 6 ohms is between 4 and 8, I assume that they will work. Is this ok? How do I know how many ohms come out of the volume control? it's one of those volume controls with jumpers but the tables I have are only for 4,8 and 16 ohms.
