What is so special about the Hsu subs?

Unregistered guest
Hello all. I am looking into a set of Aperion speakers 533 LR, 533 VAC center, 433 or 533 surrounds. I noticed that the Hsu STF-2 is $399 and so is the 10" sub that Aperion sells... was going to go with the Hsu based on all of the recommendations here on the forum.. the one thing I have not been able to find is a description about what makes the Hsu subs so great? Should it outperform the standard 10" Aperion sub especially considering its the same price. Of course I can always try and return if unhappy but I am loooking to make the best decision first if possible.

FWIW I know there have been many posts here regarding the Ascend speakers but I am looking at the Aperion vs Ascend mainly b/c I don;t care for the jet black look of the Ascends for the area that I have set up for it.

actually the Ascends are now available in a range of different finishes:

As for the Aperion sub I have no idea, but I tend to feel more comfortable going with a subwoofer-only specialist manufacturer like SVS or Hsu...I figure since these people ONLY do subs, they can't afford to put out a bad product while a speaker manufacturer has the advantage of rolling their subs along with their speakers.

I'm told that Paradigm is one speaker manufacturer which also makes very good subs though. Haven't heard that about any other speaker company.
