Sony Receiver STR-DE995 7.1 Channel Discrete

Big RC
Hi, I just got this new Sony STR-DE995 7.1 discrete channel receiver and am pretty darn satisfied with everything it has done so far, but have two important questions.

1)I can't find a mode that utilizes all 7 channels at 110w X 7 for just playing cd's or MP3's from my computer. Is there such a mode such as 7.1 channel stereo or all channel stereo? If anyone can please shed some light, that would be great.

2) Which DVD titles out currently as of December 2003 fully utilize the 7.1 channel surround sound format???

Thanks for listening, hope someone can help!

1) You probably won't be able to play cd's and mp3's in 7.1 channel mode with the receiver you bought. The 995 has 7.1 discrete channels but the effect will only be found on DVD's or DVD-Audio (I am not sure if DVD-Audio stuff has come out in 7.1 format) because the receiver's decoders only have Dolby Digital ES (6.1 or 5.1 channels), DTS ES (6.1 or 5.1 ch), DTS Neo 6 (6.1 or 5.1 channels from stereo) and Dolby ProLogic II (5.1 ch from stereo source).

The decoder mode that you are asking about has been developed, it is Dolby ProLogic IIx and it can produce 7.1 channels from stereo or 5.1 source material, but your 995 doesn't come with this decoder.

With your receiver you will be able to use DTS Neo 6 to produce 6.1 sound from stereo material and I am not sure but I think the receiver will split the 6th or rear surround into the two rear surrounds if you have a 7.1 setup like you mentioned.

2)Not sure but here are links to dolby and dts that you can check out.
