Hello, I'm looking for opinions on this player from those who have heard and used it. On the listening side, is it "too analytical", as some have suggested?

On the utility side, how is the preamp section both in fidelity and useability?

The player would be great for system simplicity, basically eliminating an external DAC as well as a the preamp from a system. I'm going to be using an outboard active speaker XO, so keeping the component count (as well as the number of analog cables) to a minimum is something I'm striving for.

I HAD the 840c and used it mainly for the DAC function.
You can check this out, but CA uses the SAME transport thruout the line, from the budget 3xx series on UP. I didn't like that.

I enjoyed my player. Very nice presentation without drama. I currently have a DacMagic+ since I rarely used the CD part of my expensive player.
