Posted on Thursday, July 01, 2004 - 03:33 GMT My sister has a Sony STR-DE335 receiver that is about 4 years old. When you turn it on, it works for about 5 seconds, then "PROTECT" flashes in the display and nothing on the receiver functions. The manual says the protective device on the receiver has been activated because of a short circuit. Has anyone had this problem? I opened the receiver up but found nothing physically burned or smoked. Any help would be appreciated before I tell her to send it for repair. |

Posted on Thursday, July 01, 2004 - 17:08 GMT it does sound like you had a short at one time or another. if you have disconected every single wire and it's still doing it. i would have 2 suggestions. after that i would call sony. try leaving the unit unpluged from power for at least an hour then try it again because it may have to reset itself. "with everything still disconected" if that does not do it see if you can find a manual reset either in the manual or through the onscreen menu or try front and rear panels. |

Posted on Thursday, July 01, 2004 - 19:26 GMT Thanks for the advice KEGGER. Are you a Wolverine fan? I bleed maize & blue myself- GO BLUE!!! I tried your suggestions but the problem still exists. I was able to perform a hard boot reset to the receiver but it still displays "PROTECT" within a few seconds after power up. Looks like it is off to sony next. Thanks again. |
