Hi all,

Looking for bookshelf speaker recommendations for Arcam Solo, with front facing ports. I listened to the accompanying Alto speakers, which were fine, but would like to know what other monitors would be compatible for comparison. Budget is up to $750.

Thanks much.

Thanks all,

Great suggestions. Stu, I listened to the Focal Chorus' not lond ago, and remembering them sounding wonderful. I'll revisit them, again.

I have some experience with the Solo and various speakers. Here are some recommendations:

B&W 686 or 685 - if you like a warm sound, rear ported though (why is this an issue?)

Focal 705V or 706V - if you prefer a lean sound

Dynaudio Audience 42 - a good combination with the Solo, the 42 is not that difficult to drive and the benefits are there to hear easily. Much better in my view than the Altos.

Naim N-Sat - An unlikely combination since the speakers are so expensive, but they're easy to drive and a really excellent combination with the Solo for some reason. Faster, more dynamic than the rest here with a lean and punchy presentation. Must be placed against a rear wall for bass reinforcement since this is a sealed unit (no port).

All the above will give good results with the Solo.

Regards,
Frank.

Ascend Acoustics Sierra 1 is another excellent bookshelf in your price range.

Oops- Never mind it has a rear port.
