I just upgraded my $200 sony open box special receiver to a refurbished hk avr 635 receiver. It was a huge difference. I currently have it paired with the sony save 445 speaker system.(see picture) My question is would the hkts 14 be a good upgrade? I would get them for $340 shipped brand new with factory warranty. Because both are satelite speakers, would I hear a differece? The sub would be a 12" harman kardon and the current one I have is a 8".UploadUpload

IMHO, I would keep saving for a nice speaker system. Reputable companies produce home theater speaker systems not much more than what your current budget is allowing for. Paradigm is one such company that comes to mind, with the Cinema 70 CT sub/sat speaker system selling for $499 with the mains, center, surrounds, and subwoofer.

Now, other options do exist, but this is the one that is coming to me right now.

Buying speakers from a company that specializes in speakers instead of "everything" (like sony) will almost always guarantee you better results because all the focus is on the speakers.

This is the link to the Paradigm Cinema CT page.

If you spent more than the $500 for the CT could you buy even better speakers? of course you could! But, I am just trying to give you a ballpark idea of what is out there for a budget sub/sat system.

Where do you buy Paradigm Cinema speakers? Also, do they sell them seperately? Any other suggestions?

For $100 more shipped you could also go with the Velodyne CHT Front row system ($200 shipped) and either an Onix X-sub (8" - $240 shipped)) or a BIC Acoustech H-100 sub (12" - ~$20 shipped new on eBay). The BIC would be louder and go lower but it is a large sub, the Onix is much smaller. Here's some links:

For the BIC people have been offering anywhere from $190-210 these days and getting the offer approved. I'm not saying this system would be better than the Paradigm but it is another option.

Sorry the BIC sub is around $240 shipped on eBay not $20...in any case total would be $440 for all the speakers.

What about the bic
dv64 R/L
dv62clrs center
dv62si surround

for 450 shipped? I have the sub, I coud upgrade it later.

Also, the hkts is 340 w/ a 12" sub. If I were to buy a sub, it lookes like it will cost me 240. So, I would be getting 5 speakers for $100. They would probably be better than the ones I have. I could buy this, have a great sub, and up grade speakers later?
