Improper gain setting

What could happen if youset the gain too low?, or too high?

too low, just low output
too high, clipping. you can and will blow whatever it is powering.

I was reading another gain post, someone said to use a 50Hz tone and set the gain while it plays, and when the subs move too much start turning the gain down.

you can do that. best thing to do is play whatever music type you normally listen to, slowly turn the gain up till you get enough bass presence for your likeing.
