Is there a difference that you can see in the video resolution of these two cameras? The 17 has "up to 500 lines of horizontal resolution" and a "video actual" spec of 340K pixels. The 30 has " 530 lines of horizontal resolution" and a "video actual" spec of 1390K pixels. I have been told that the main difference in these two camcorders is in the "still resolution" but I'm not interested in this feature. From the specs the 30 might be 1390/340 better?
