Sony DCR-HC32 not recognized connected via USB

My pc running Win2k SP4 does not recognize my Sony DCR-HC32 MiniDV when it's connected via its' cradle. I have installed and reinstalled the drivers and the software provided by Sony, but the pc still does not see it. Has anyone experienced this?
