Need to know a few things about the Sony DCR-TRV460

I'm doing a video project in school and using a friend's Sony DCR-TRV460. Basically, I just need to get the video on my laptop for editing, but I'm not sure how i can do that. I have an I394 port and USB port, which i think are the only ways this camcorder can transfer video. What resolution will the digital video be at, and (by personal experience), how is it? I also read about how it supports USB streaming, but it requires the computer to be connected to the camcorder for recording. If i cant transfer the video otherwise and have to use this feature, what resolution will it record at? I think that the firewire method should be the easiest, so if that will work, can someone give me a step by step guide? thanks, thats it for now, Faraz.
