Hi,

I have a Sony Handycam DCR-HC32 connected through firewire with my PC. When I start "Windows Moviemaker / Capture form device" only my webcam is recognized.

Does anybody know why my camera is not recognized?

Thx,
Dennieku

Dennieku,

It is a little unusual for the webcam function to be supported via firewire rather than USB.

As a start, it might be worth checking that your camcorder is in playback mode rather than camera mode.

Please check it and get back to me.

Cheers.

Hi,

My camcorder was in playback mode, so that should not be the problem.
I just checked my hardware devices and I've noticed that there is no IEEE 1394 adapter present. When I try to add new hardware it is also not recognized.

Could that be the problem?

Thx !

Dennieku,

Is your IEEE 1394 on-board or a PCI card? If Windows is not recognising the adapter, you are definitely stuck.

If the device is PCI, try removing it, ensuring both the connector and slot are clean, and re-inserting. If it's on-board, might be time to get a PCI card and see if your PC can find that.

If Windows completely refuses to recognise any 1394 controllers then you might have a problem with your XP installation.

Keep me informed!

Cheers.
