Does hard drive speed matter?

Hello,
I am interested in getting a firewire card to put my home videos on my pc. But I heard that not only do I need firewire, but I also need my hard drive to have a rpm of 7200 or higher to get nice smooth video. Does anyone know if this is true or will I be ok with my 5400 rpm harddrive. Any help would be appreciated. For some reason my username and pass don't work any more so I have to post as anon.

Thanks

actually it will depend more on your computer's processing capacity and speed than it is on your hard drive. I have had no trouble using a ATI video card with analog video inputs on a Pentium 3 processor...but that was 2 years ago... It is a bit slow on the transfer but it can be done.
Can the computer handle firewire transfer rates is more the question too?
cheers
