I am in the market for a video camera and the Canon XL2 seems like a very good one.

The only downside I have is that I live in Australia and was wanting to buy from the USA to save $$$$.

Now after reading a thread on NTSC/PAL the suggestion is not to buy a NTSC camera if you are going to be using it in country using PAL. So that is my dilema. If I buy here in Australia it will cost me about $2000 more just to get the PAL version instead of the NTSC version from the USA. Now is the extra $2k worth it to get PAL?

How does footage recorded on a NTSC vidoe camera in 16:9 mode look when it is played back on a PAL HDTV? Anyone?

Listen man...

You can choose a PAL version from US, or Singapore or wherever... at no additional charge!

I don't recommand you to use NTSC in Australia anyway. The colours are rubish.

A friend heard PAL is better than NTSC even for USA.

Anyone know if this is true and why?

PAL has more lines (I think) and less frames per second (25 so closer to film) and is a superior image format. If you have the choice ALWAYS go PAL.

the xl2 does both oem, hence 24p and 30p modes.
