jeff i think it might be around 40 amps or so depending on what kind of amplifier you have. i have a punch 150. 300watts max it takes about 40 amps. There is a formula to find out how many amps it would take, but i forgot it. most vehicles' altenators have about 35 to 40 extra amps.

Jeff you will have better luck buying a stronger amp. Car amplifiers are made just as the name they are for car audio not home.

Also johnny your amp doesn't draw 40amps it only needs about 15-20 amps for peak proformance. You add this by 10 amps for every 100 watts.

CAR (translation= Vehicle, Automobile, 4 wheels). A CAR amp is not what you want. It will not do exactly what you think it will. Buy a stronger HOME amp insted.
