ok so one of my friends thought it would be cool to hook up his reciever to his cigarete lighter in his car which only is 9 volt pre-out. I'm not that familiar with recievers as i am with subs but ould this have damaged it? he said all it did was light up but none of the functions work. Thanks in advance for any input.

Must say I've never heard of anybody trying something like that before. What was his thinking on that? Trying not to have to run power wire or what?

I have no idea. I told him he was a dumbass for trying it. I'm just gonna hook it up right to see if it still works. I figured that maybe because of the low voltage that it may have damaged it. i dunno. i guess i'll have to find out.

Low voltage shouldn't hurt anything. Only excessive current and/or voltage should harm electronics.

Thats my understanding from pre-college computer studies anyway. Perhaps car audio might be special...
