New member Username: Rwmj5Post Number: 1 Registered: Aug-04 | I'm primarily interested in sound quality, and I was considering getting a single Adire Brahma 12" in about a 1 ft^3 sealed box. I was going to pair it with a JBL GTO 1201.1 amp. Can anyone recommend any other amps or have any comments about the setup in general? I would only be able to get the 780 watts from the jbl running it with a single brahma correct? |

Gold Member Username: Jonathan_fGA USA Post Number: 1004 Registered: May-04 | The Brahma is an excellent choice for sound quality. With that amp, you won't need the full 1200 watts, 780 is plenty. The 1600W rating is thermal, basically it is all the power the voice coil can handle without overheating, it will take much less to push a Brahma to it's mechanical limits. Make sure the 1.0 cubic foot is net volume, the actual recommended box by Adire's specs is 12.5"x12.5"x13" internal. 780 watts should push the Brahma very close to full excursion in that box, if not all the way to full excursion. You'll also get better sound quality by running the amp with a 4 ohm load. If you have questions about the power handling of the Brahma, on http://www.acoustic-visions.com there is a power chart on the Brahma info, it lists power required to push a Brahma to full excursion in certain size sealed boxes. |

New member Username: Rwmj5Post Number: 2 Registered: Aug-04 | Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking of even getting a Brutus BX1500, but that would be at a 1 ohm load. I would rather have too much power and never having to worry about the amp clipping and just pay attention to the levels. The brahma would need a .92 ft box and 900 watts of power for full excursion according to the site at a qtc of .707. Granted 780 watts is pretty close to 900, but i would still rather over than underpower it. I wish Adire would also make a dual 4 ohm brahma so there were some more setup choices. If the amp is not getting pushed near its limits, will the fact that it's seeing a lower impedence affect the sound quality that greatly? If you were running a 1000 wat max amp at 800 watts in a 4 ohm load, i might expect the amp to sound better than 800 watts into a 2 ohm load, but would it really be that different if you compared them running at say 200 watts? |

Gold Member Username: Jonathan_fGA USA Post Number: 1012 Registered: May-04 | Yep, sound quality would still be degraded. The load itself is what degrades sound quality, there is much more heat from a 1 ohm load than a 4 ohm, the distortion will be higher and the amp will have less headroom |
