I installed the HU and everything seemed to work fine...for a second.

The disply works fine on the HU but the buttons do not light up. could that be due to the illumunation not being hooked up on my HU?

The deck will play some cds, but not all of them. They are regular cds, not burned ones. I cleaned the lens with a cd lens cleaner...same situation. Some will play, others will not.

What would I need to do in this situation?

did you buy this unit new?
if you bought it used, I'd give it back to the seller and ask for my money back

used from ebay. Hopefully, I will get a better deck in about a week if all goes well...but not from ebay. Here is the funny part about it all: when I play one of the cds that plays well for about 2 minutes and play the other cds that don't play well, the "bad" cds play better after that.

could you explain that one to me?

laser pickup is screwed up.
the guy sold you a trashed deck.
I'd demand my money back and give negative feedback, along with reporting him to eBay
chances are it's probably stolen anyway

this is why I always use paypal and buyer protection services so I can report bad units and get a refund through paypal.

I did pay through paypal. :-) I am reporting that person and requesting refund via paypal and ebay. I already left positive feedback because I received equipment. should have gotten it bench tested first.
