Different size subs

hi, i've heard that if i'm going to run multiple subs, they should be the same size. cos i was thinking of getting maybe a 15 inch for the low bass, and maybe a 10 or 8 inch for the higher frequencies, cos smaller subs are more musical than bigger subs, but bigger subs play deeper. is it a good idea? if not, why not?

the 15 will basically cancel out the smaller subs. you wont here them unless they are in your kick panels or something

i was thinking of using a crossover, so that the 15 gets the low bass(sub 50hz), and the 10's get the 50 - 100 hz range

you can use a fifteen and set low pass for about 70Hz.
then use a pair of 8" as midbass drivers, and set them from about 80Hz up to about 200Hz.
set the high pass for the components in front for about 150Hz, and you can fine tune it all with an EQ like the EQL from audiocontrol.
that's about the best way to do what you're after.

do you think its a good idea to go this way tho? are there any obvious advantages/disadvantages to doing this?
