Which way should the subs face in X-Tended Cab PickUP

Which way should the subs be facing in an extended cab pick up. They can either point to the roof or the back of the seats. When they are facing the seats, there is less than 2" of clearance between the woofer and the seat.
I have 2 12" subs in a single box that fills up most of the space.
