Ok guys, I am a bit confused !

lets say I have a box volume of Vb, is the port Volume (Vp) already in the box volume (Vb)? or would it have to be added on?

Thanks.

No. Vb is net volume, less port volume.

So, if you have a 1.5cuft Vb (net) box and a Vp (port volume) of 0.5cuft...the total gross volume internal is 2cuft.

You don't have to use that much port area for most subs.
In many low to mid power settings, 10-14sq per cu is fine.

The total amount of port are you will need will be dependent on the subs. 14-16sq per cubic foot works well w/ higher power or a sub that behaves in such a way that is requires that much. In many cases, a single 4" flared port is fine w/ a 2cuft box and 1-12" sub.

Shopvac,
What sub are you using?
