for that ohm configuration, you'll want an amp that can do ~3k-4k @ .5 ohm or 2 ohm.

or you could get two amps that will make ~1500watts @ 1 ohm each

and you'll want to have an upgraded electrical system to handle that wattage.

what do you mean upgraded electrical system? and what would be more cost effective 1 big one or 2 smaller ones?

Big 3 http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp~TID~73496~PN~1

High Output alternator

Good battery and/or battery bank

An Audioque 1200d is a strong budget amp for $249 and would work well for your application
And generally 2 small amps is a lot cheaper than one large amp

^^for maybe 10 seconds before the car shuts off since it lacks a proper electrical system for that amp.

to run that daily you are going to need a new alternator which can range anywhere from $200 to 800.

your brother gave you a really nice speaker but without the money to make it safe to run you're SOL

if you don't want to spend the 600-1000 for electrical upgrades, i would sell those subs (they are very valuable subs) and spend that nmoney on a sub/amp combo that doesn't require electrical upgrades.

Just use 1 sub on 1000-1500rms amp @ 1ohm if thats the only amount of power you "need".

If, down the road you need more power, you can add another amp since you already have the other sub. And upgrade your electrical from there.

I think thats what I'm going to do BERNY just run with one with a 1500 watt amp on it and see if I'm happy with that. brother said I might go as high as 125 db if I use a big ported box so I might not even need the other sub.

that is good advice to sell or trade 1 sub for a good amp

125dbs is nothing to do - can be done with a 6"

expect low 140s with that amt of power - of course install & vehicle acoustic cud be even higher numbers

i wud advise more than 1500wrms - audioque 2200d is a good budget choice ...

hahaha you better score a lot higher than that with that sub. I used to do 145s in a daily box with a 9515

I feel so stupid now I guess things change in 17 years. so here is my ? im willing to spend 700 on a amp for each sub or 1500 if i can run both off of 1 big amp. can I buy quality amps for that price or should I just use 1 sub and pay up to 1500 for just 1 good amp

I say run it on 1500rms. A lot of these guys always tell you to run a lot of power. But that runs into its own problems with electrical. You can get a good quality 1500rms amp for $400 or less. No need to spend all of your $1500.

The average price you'll pay for a High Output alternator is about $350 to $400. And then batteries, thats a whole different category.

You have the money to run upwards of 3000rms. But why do that if you don't need to.

Yes there are plenty of options today that didn't exist 10+ years ago. There are guys running 8" subs today doing crazy numbers with them too.

Like the passage so many guys here are familiar with:

"It's not the size of the wand but the magic in it."

17yrs ago 50-500wrms was plenty but nowadays there are 10,000wrms amps & 5000wrms subs on the market

if u have proper space for those 2 12s & if u have $700 budgeted for each sub IMO id get 2 AQ 2200D & spend what left of that $ of a high output alt & drycell battery like a kinetic \ oddessy \ power master xs power ...
