How do I determine what size fuse to use?

Thanks-Dom

one quick way is add up all your amp fuse ratings and make sure your fuse holder is around that amount, and make sure you dont have too big of a fuse for wire. or it can create problems. so if you have 2x30 in your amp get a 60 amp inline

Okay, I have four fuses rated at 20 so use an 80amp fuse?

yes i would use that on 4 gauge wire. if you start popping fuses for no apparent reason just when you turn it up, then get a slightly bigger fuse.

Fuse size is determined by the wire size nothing else. Wire size is then determined by the amplifier.

Wire Gauge Recommended
Maximum Fuse Size
00 awg 400 amps
0 awg 325 amps
1 awg 250 amps
2 awg 200 amps
4 awg 125 amps
6 awg 80 amps
8 awg 50 amps
10 awg 30 amps
12 awg 20 amps
14 awg 15 amps
16 awg 7.5 amps
These are the recommended maximum fuse ratings for the corresponding wire size. Using a smaller fuse than what's recommended here will be perfectly safe.

Just curious what would happen if you rigged a 0ga wire to fit in say a 4ga amp?
