hello its me again
would upgrading my alternator and battery keep my amp from clipping my sub

i want to be able to get the full potential out of this AQ 1200 and i can only turn the gain up about half way before it says clipping on the remote. also can you try to explain what clipping is please. from what i understand it is distorted signals from mp to sub due to low voltage?

Sell everything, the car amp subs everything

If you were having a problem a problem powering a huge amp, a high output alt would help you. Your problem is your not properly adjusting your gain. You dont have to turn your gain all the way up to get the full potential out of the amp. Thats why your clipping. I never used the AQ amp, on my 9.1 about 1/4 on the gain would give me the full potential of the amp

Been said 1000 times.

The gain is NOT a volume button. Some set it by ear and some set it with a DMM.

Backyard way without using equipment is to adjust your HU's volume just to the the point of audible distortion, then turn it down just a notch more. Then adjust the gain on your amp until you hear the same distortion, then turn it down a notch as well. If you exceed the limits of either the HU or amp clipping occurs. Many have adjusted their gains by ear for years, like old fuggs like me who never had DMMs.

And clipping can occur at even only one watt. It all starts with a clean signal.

M.S. has a way of speaking his mind that sometimes offends others.

There are no stupid questions. If nobody asked them we'd all remain......stupid.

That is the accurate way to do it. To be honest in this case I think pauls method would yeild almost the same result tho. And bass boost off.

And I've been around since the days of unregistered posting fyi... just not always under this account :-)

w00t a grammar N@zi.
FYI, you start a sentence with a capital letter. Also you must have some sort of punctuation after your sentence.

M.S. is right here. If you are going to start installing your own stuff, you need to sit and read the basics. Basically, learn WTF you are doing.

A nicer way to put it.....

If you can't pass this

don't consider yourself qualified to work or electrical system / audio equipment.

I do not use bass boost at all. You can get away with a little. If you must use BB, I wouldn't go past the 1/4 mark no matter how much louder and better you THINK it sounds.

i have read that you should leave the speakers connected in order to compensate for rise?

Having the speakers connected makes the whole process completely useless.... do you even know what a reactive load is.
