I only want to have to do this once so any help/information anyone can spare me will help out alot

I have a 1974 volkswagen beetle im slowly restoring. Im almost to the point where I will want to start working on a subwoofer box and speaker enclosements and would just like someone that knows what they are doing to point me in the right direction

Im only planning on spending about 1000 dollars on everything
Im planning on buying;
-a headunit
-two tweeters
-four speakers
-two 12" inch sub woofers
-2 channel amplifer
-some kindve deep cell battery
-high performance alternator
-capitacor

Im hoping on getting at least a 4000 watt 2 channel amp (2x 2000 watt out put) with 2 subs that are rated for 2000 watts of contiunous power.

The questions:
What should I buy
Where should I buy it all from
Will my car beable to power it all if I upgrade the alternator and battery

Thanks, Dan

Hey there, sounds like quite the project you got going on there, Vw's are my favorite car's lol im currently trying to find an OLD bug to turn into a Baja Bug for some fun lol. But enough about me lol.

If your only trying to spend 1000 on this setup your going to be very limited with what you plan to buy. Lets start here.

Generally a nice new alternator is gonna cost a little under 200 and i suggest an optima yellow top battery($100ish)
Here is a list of batteries that would work or you can use a batcap(sp?) that works as a battery/capacitor i think.

http://www.woofersetc.com/c58/Batteries.htm

so lets say you still have 750 to work with for the actual stereo components.

Next most important is the head unit. with your goals and price range i would go with something similar to this, its a pretty nice stereo from a very reputable company, alpine does make a good stereo.

http://www.woofersetc.com/p7564/CDE102--Alpine-CD-MP3-WMA-AAC-Receiver-and-iPod- Controller.htm

so now your down to 600. I know you said you wanted to run something like 2000 watts rms to 2 separate subs. This is a little outlandish, its unnecessary the same goal can be achieved with one sub and around 1000 watts rms in that tiny car. This will help you save a fair amount. Now i dont know if your going to SQ or SPL, but ill assume SQ since your going with speakers and everything and its a rebuild.
Here are a couple suggestions that will match the amps ill suggest from cheapest to expensive.

http://www.woofersetc.com/p3170/RWE304---MB-Quart--12"-1000-Watt-Reference-Series-Subwoofer.htm

http://www.woofersetc.com/p5203/12W3V34--JL-Audio-12"-500-Watt-4-Ohm-Subwoofer.htm

http://www.woofersetc.com/p1992/SW7104DVCT2--Eclipse-Aluminum-10"-800-Watt-2-Ohm-DVC-Subwoofer.htm

so lets say were down to 400 now. Amp time. from cheapest to nicest again.

http://www.woofersetc.com/p7624/R5001-Rockford-Fosgate-PRIME-Monoblock-500-Watt- Amplifier.htm

http://www.woofersetc.com/p2962/REF611A--Infinity-650-Watt-Class-D-Subwoofer-Amp lifier.htm

http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_22&products_id=44

http://www.woofersetc.com/p7213/G1300--JL-Audio-1-Ch-300-Watt-Amplifier.htm

Of those amps i really suggest the edesigns NiNe.1, ive had one along with a few JL amps, and the nine.1 is at a great price right now is a good amp in case you buy a bigger sub or upgrade in the future.

So now down to 200 and haven't even gotten to any speakers or the wiring or the box building.

Expect to spend around 200 on the wiring(amp wiring kit(s), head unit wiring and mounting brackets.

So lets see how cheaply i can suggest the rest.

Speaker system.
http://www.woofersetc.com/p5241/SPR13S--Alpine-525"-2-Way-300-Watt-Component-Speaker-System.htm
i think thats a pretty good setup for the front. and im not sure what size speakers you would use in the back, but lets see if i can convince you NOT to use any other speakers than those.

Most people have rear speakers well simply enough for there rear passengers. But imagine being at a concert, you can feel the bass coming from everywhere(low frequency is very hard to determine where exactly its coming from, higher frequencies are the opposite) well you can specifically tell that the instruments are coming from a stage in front of you and up a little bit. Same thing that is trying to be achieved in a car, to have all the noise come from your windshield. That's why tweeters have to be installed to perfectly to get the right sound, the sound waves they produce are like bullets straight forward, move down to mid ranges and it gets a little harder to distinguish the point of origin and get to subs and its near impossible, that is why they go in the trunk lol. So why would you want to ruin your new stereo with music coming from the speakers behind you. These speakers are unnecessary and hurtful in a good sounding system.

Now its not completely necessary to have an amp run your speakers but its highly recommended. So here are a couple amps that could run both your speaker set up AND your subwoofer.

http://www.woofersetc.com/p3960/ZX5503--Kicker-3-Ch-550-Watt-ZX-Series-Amplifier .htm

http://www.woofersetc.com/p131/GT50--Boston-Acoustics-5-Ch-510-Watt-Amplifier.ht m

http://www.woofersetc.com/p4616/XA5000--Eclipse-5-Ch-900-Watt-Class-D-ICEpower-T echnology-Amplifier-plus-Subsonic-Filter.htm

And buying one of these amps instead of two separate amps for the sub and speakers may save you some money.

After going over all of this i dont believe it will be completely required to upgrade your alternator/battery but it wont hurt....at least upgrade the big 3 wires.

So i hope this helps and just keep in mind this can be done for cheaper but this is using all(mostly) high quality brands that are dependable/clean/and respected. Any other questions feel free to ask.
