Im about to stab a child right now. Last thursday i get in my car, and put in my new cd i made and the HU comes back and says cd text error. No big deal so i take it out and try again and still doesnt work so i try with another cd that i know for sure works cause id been using that cd for months. i put it in and it doesnt work but finally my new cd works after a few attempts. Fast forward to this morning. i get in my car, turn it on and my HU doesnt power on with no sound. turn my car off and turn it back on but this time it powers for 2 seconds and music plays then it cuts off BUT the music keeps playing. so i turn off my car and turn it back on and again so power or music. so i try another 3-4 times overall this morning and everytime, it fails. im bitter and im tired and im an hour early to class. been a sh1tfest of a morning. what the hell happened?

Yeah do what Chad said and try the reset button. Did you say that the music keeps playing even when the HU has no power?? It's gotta have power if the music is playing....the display is maybe fu<ked. }

Ribbon cable needs to be replaced...from what you descibed. @ $15 off ebay if you can find one.

Is it under a warranty?, If nor expect like 150 to have it repaired by them.

Let's see if I can be more detailed this time around.

The reset button does nothing unfortunately. One time this morning the music actually played and the HU turned on for a matter of seconds then cut off BUT the music kept playing. After this happened, I turned the car off and turned it back on and it just did nothing. Every time after that, nothing happens. No lights turn on and no music plays. But when I turn my car off, the faceplate still slides down like it always does.

It might be under warranty. I'm gonna look for my receipt and talk to Pioneer and see what can happen.

Heres a whole site on ppl with similar problems with that model.

http://www.fixya.com/support/t1859611-pioneer_7800mp_turn

Seems the cable is the most common problem

Ipod is so dated....USB is the future
Also Ipod has a low bitrate format, where as USB can accommodate any format the head unit can process.

Sonds like its time to look into a new unit.

try changing the ribbon first, its a cheap test.
Then make sure the HU has good ground, and mite as well wrap the rcas and ground them while your in there..

My old x590 screen died, but warranty for the win.
Got it back, ebayed it, then got the x890. Over a year and a half now,

And if your getting a new unit...

http://cgi.ebay.com/DENON-CAR-CD-PLAYER-DCT-A100-ALPHA-24-PROCESSING-DCT-A1_W0QQ itemZ300345102108QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCar_Audio_In_Dash_Receivers?hash=item45edf68 f1c&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Thats some bad hat.

Now if only more poeple would post stories like maybe ppl would realise pioneer is nowhere near the top of the ladder in HUs. Most they've put out in the past decade suffer from the same problems, poor quality components.

Alpine FTW

JVC if USB versitility is your thing.

actually I think I figured out your problem yanks. Mine does this every once and a while too. Just push on the faceplate in some spots. I think that the piece it plugs into from the faceplate onto the deck must not have a very solid connection. See if that helps.
