Hi there,

We bought a second hand Merc A170 and had to replace the battery, onnly to find that we did not receive a radio code!

I would appreciate any help with this please!

This is the info I have for it , (it's in German unfortunatley, thats where we are now and mine isn't super.. but I hope you can make heads or tails of it! we got it off the radio..)

Here is the car identification number

Fahrzeug-Identifizierungsnummer: WDB1680081J273420

Mercedes Benz
Typ: 168
Variante: M208C2
Version: HCAAB50

Please let me know if this doesn't help you at all and I'll try come back with a translation?

many thanks!

Mercedes do not make radios , they only affix their badge onto well known makes (BECKER , BLAUPUNKT , ALPINE etc so the first thing required is any manufacturer`s name or symbol anywhere on it.

Please quote everything you can find

Also how many Preset Buttons are there on the front of this radio?

Hi there,

Thanks so much for your reply, apologies for the delay in mine, the car is with my husband at work, so I've been waiting on his reply.

This is what he says:

"The radio says nothing but

Mercedes Benz audio 10

In the back of the manual, it lists a credit for Becker GmbH, Karlsbad, TDN so I would assume it is a Becker radio.

There are four buttons - numbered 1,2,3,4"

I hope this helps?

Thanks!

That`s the information I`m looking for .

It`s a MERCEDES / BECKER Audio 10 with 4 Presets

If Fahrzeug-Identifizierungsnummer: WDB1680081J273420 is the serial number then
try code 11311

Hi there,

Thanks so much for all your help, I really appreciate it. I'm so sorry for all the back and forth on this, but the code didn't work. Hubby had a closer look and says:

"The ID number is correct, but the radio has 8 FM presets. Maybe this will give a different code number."

I think it might only be a four digit code...

According to my database the Audio 10 models all have five digit codes.

This means that if yours has 8 Presets then try 11711

If you are sure that it is only a four digit code , then the four digit Becker Calculator produces code 0710

If neither work , then let me know and I`ll quote a full list of different Preset buttons with their Calculations

Hi there,

You were indeed right about the 5 digit code, unfortunatly the one you gave me didn't work :-(

This is what i got from my husband after he tried it :

"The radio has 8 FM presets, but you have to press the FM button to get to digits 5-8. The radio guide says the code should be 5 digits and only contain the numbers 1,2,3, or 4. So, I cannot input 11711. It has to be a different code.

It might be best to get the full list and try the different combinations."

So.. could I bother you for your help again? I can't tell you how much I appreciate it! Thanks!!

There are three choices.

The Four Presets = 11311 (which you say doesn`t work)

Five Presets = 41211

Six Presets = 32111

If none work , then make sure you are entering them correctly.

If still fail to work then either it is the wrong set of calculators ( but they`ve worked OK for many other Merc Codes in the past) ...or I am using the wrong Serial Number (WDB1680081J273420
)....or your radio has been recoded in the past to a completely different code number.

From past experience of Merc Codes , I would have expected the answer to be the Four Presets (11311 )..or possibly the very common Six Presets (32111)

Hi there,

Thanks so much for those codes. We have tried them all and none of them work! I'm in a panic now! We have even contacted Benz here and they say they cannot give us a new code "by law", only a new radio ?!?! I have no idea what to do now.

Have you any suggestions?

How could the radio have been set to a totally new code? How does one do that?

Once again, thanks for your help, it's so appreciated!!

It now looks as though your radio has been recoded in the past to a completely different number to the one that it left the factory with.

It will now have to be taken to a Radio Decode Specialist ( or perhaps your local Car Radio / Audio Store) where the memory chip (EEPROM) will have to be electronically "read" and/or recoded to get you working again.

It`s a fairly straightforward procedure using a laptop or specialist electronic kit and will definitely get you working again

Your code is not available for free from anywhere on the Internet

Please do NOT keep posting the same request in different threads.

If you are that impatient for your code then please take your radio into a Main Dealer

Hi Reg,

We'll have to take it to a Radio shop as you suggested.

I just wanted to thank you for all your time, patience and help. You're fantastic!
