only real pointer I can give you is find something or a service that people will always need no matter how bad the enonomy is. I am a bail bondsman/ bounty hunter. People always need to get out of jail.
I would love to own a cemetary. It will eventully be full of "customers"

Are you good with cars by any chance? Auto service is a field to be in right now. One of the few businesses doing well right now. People are keeping their older cars longer b/c they can't buy new ones in this economy.

It takes a TON of grace and self control, not to mention a grasp on fine etiquette, but the waiters in the restaurants in the casinos make MAJOR bank. Couple hundred/night. Of course it helps to live near one.

Yeah. Waiting tables defiantly test patience and people skills. The movie waiting is exact, except for the pen!s showing game and spitting in peoples food. I love doing it, for the time being anyway

I work for a yacht service company pretty much anything with yachts we do. we havnt laid anyone off like most other people in our field. Weve been slower but still have work atleast. My boss said no one is getting let go either so thats always good to hear.

It sucks to be out of work though I know tons of people out of work and not just the younger generation, people in their 40s and 50s unemployed.

ya well with cut hours and pay I would be getting more from unemployment checks if I got laid off lol

But it's all good I'll be leaving for BCT in a couple months and no longer have to worry about all that stuff

Sadly many are faced with that decision. Look for a lower paying job or ride unemployment and work under the table as long as you can. It's an easy decision for most. Problem is after the benefit runs out you're truly at the end of your rope. Plus you owe taxes on it. Then you're FORCED to work for 40% less than what you're used to.

Not to mention the more ppl collecting will ultimately drive up the burden on the working class, which you will eventually become a part of again anyway.

And if you're a parent carrying insurance on your children collecting isn't helping their health insurance either.

And you can suspend any 401K or retirement contributions during that time frame as well.

Out of work is more than one step backwards for many. It sucks.

Damn dude sorry to hear that. I work at sam's part time just to have some spending money in my pocket while i'm at school, and we haven't laid anyone off yet. they've been cutting hours on the cashiers though, luckily i'm a cart pusher so i haven't gotten hours cut yet, and i practically get paid to exercise for 5-8 hours a day.

That sucks man, sorry to hear that.

I had a fully paid internship available over summer in Phoenix but because the economy sucks so bad they changed it to unpaid so I cant take the position anymore. There is no way i could afford to work 30+ hours a week unpaid and live 2000 miles away from my house, hah.

I've been laid off since November, no signs of it getting any better either. I was at the unemployment office and I saw about 30 people or so come in within a 10 minute span filing for unemployment.
