I used to have 4 alternators and an MLA module, but I had a ton of problems with it and decided to just stick with dual alts.

I would love to get some suggestions on if you guys think I should go with more batts or upgrade the one alternator.

I have:
MLA module, 14.8 on the low setting, 15.5 on the high setting at idle after warm. 16v+ when cold.

I have 2 in back with no real pics of them, I'm not sure how many I should add in there now.

My question for you guys (since I'm working with expecting-baby-limited-funds) upgrade to a 2nd 250a alternator, or add 2 more batts right now.

I plan on doing both, but which would you do FIRST for the best daily driver until another 600 bucks falls from the money tree (in the next 2 months or so after the baby is born probably).

LOL, no Paul, my wife watched from the couch lol. The heat sink has around 3/4" deep grooves so I could stick my fingers in and pull up easily.
I was so excited to get it I didn't even think about it really

I was asked not to talk about it since there was no dealer near me, but too much probably :-)

So I have 5 or 6 runs of 1/0 from front to back, can't remember. I plan on upgrading to 8 total, 4 + 4 -. I was using kicker flex, but my hookup is going out of business (circuit city) so I'm going to get another roll or so of Knu Kolossus.
All connections are crimped and soldered though.

Subs for now will be 2 Fi BTL 18s until they can recone them to the new 22s ;) I bought one in 06, the other a jan 07- people always complained about tinsel slap but I never had any problems- they're still running great.

So that's where I stand, I will be doing the build after Valentines day, new carpet getting put in this weekend along with painting the house. After that I'll start the build. Pregnant wife > build. Plus I'm waiting for the carpet to come in.

Thinking 6 cubes per sub at 34hz until the 22s then maybe 8ft, tuned to 32hz. They wont need a whole lot of space with that much power. Sub up port up but all the way back against the gate. I did sub up port back before and just feel like a change.

So what do you guys think. I plan on upgrading the electrical all around, but 400a peak alt output with 5 D3100s, or 500 peak alt output with 3 D3100s. I'll have 5-6 batts and both alts when finished, just looking to upgrade one for now. Thanks for looking, any input is appreciated!

Hey troy just finished with Nic Cee, well with both my Mechman alts' he still recommened AT least 2 D3100's per 500.1 and would rather see me have 3 per, so for you i would say 6-7 D3100's :-)

You mean the brace in the corner? It's still not enough room for a 3100 with all the a/c stuff there. Besides I have enough room in back to fit 8 total.

I'll try 5 for now and just add more as cash rolls in.

Anyone with 3100s for sale contact me please!

" Don't blow yourself up with that "

Not sure if that was or joke or not, but it's actually a good point... an amp that size would easily be capable of producing a potentially lethal amount of electricity of the speaker outputs.

MS you are right, especially since it runs at 2ohms+. Using the classic formula for setting gain even at 10,000w:

V=sqrt(Watts x Impedance)

sqrt(10,000x2=20,000) = 141.4v.

Thanks a lot guys! I'm going to be starting the build soon, I'll post up what I've done so far when I find the pics or take new ones.

Mark- I did find the first pm in my bulk folder and replied to that. I just replied to your email too though.

D-money, sorry its 6 am and I'm tired lol, did I miss something?

That's the plan Snarl. I had the last 4kw in my car until I sold it and on one BTL I couldn't get it warm (amp or sub) with 4kw output on music. I figure 5kw may be pushing it a bit, but for burps it should gain me at least a few 10ths or more.

The biggest thing is that this has similar output to 3 of my old amp on 12v, with the current draw of only 2. Even if I keep it turned down I'll have plenty of room to play.

You know you love the bass Chad lol

SMD AA sub- 4" coils w/ basically 2 of the new btl motors stacked. Since Scott is really behind the scenes with the whole thing- he showed a 22" basket at CES. Should be able to recone to the 22, if not I will buy new. I think Fi will be releasing their 22 before the SMD version so that's most likely the route I'll go.

http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=24530

Link to Fi forum showing the pics of the basket and stuff.

Still no word on the release date- that's why I'm just doing things a bit different this time. I want to be able to keep the batts/amp in place at all times and just be able to yank the sub out while keeping everything looking really nice.

We got the carpet in our house and the nursery set up for the baby so from here on out I should have more time for my truck :-)

I should be uploading pics tonight of what I'm looking at right now.

Also ordering some box carpet and some knu flex. I love the red + and black - look sooo much more than the all blue I've been going with, so that will be the new scheme. Should look good with the aluminum heat sink of the amp imo.

And since I realize I messed up and double posted one of those amp pics here's the correction:

People always complained about the tinsel slap- if the bass is loud enough how can you even hear that? Honestly though- with 4krms I NEVER heard a single bit of that. I've had this particular sub since October of 2006 with no problems. The felt pads are hardly even touched. Not trying to start an argument, it just never gave me a problem and I ran a lot more to them than many people who had issues.

May as well throw a few pics of the truck itself in the mix while the build pics are uploading:

01 Tahoe, 285x10.5s on factory rims. Don't plan on changing. I took the running boards off but they're going back on. The surfboard pads up top are really durable for hauling mdf on the roof

Upload

Upload

As you can see from some of the other pics I have a K&N cold air intake, but I also added Magnaflow true duals with a bit of custom pipe work. No cats, 2.75" pipe up under the body so you can't see it without getting under the truck. I never was a fan of visible tips, and I painted the pipes black to match the coated frame. I know there are rusty parts under there- that's all in the works.

So I was in need of a test box and had no single 18 boxes around. I paid 20 bucks for this one (less than the cost of a sheet of MDF). I knew it wasn't so great a box, but it did it's job. Here are a few pics of me taking it out today:

Upload
Upload
Upload

The box was falling apart, but I didn't think it was THIS bad lol. The bottom fell off when I was letting it down. It did it served it purpose for the money though.
Upload
Upload

I DID NOT BUILD THIS BOX! It doesn't matter who did, I really just wanted to test what 400a of current draw did to the electrical system before ordering a bigger amp.

So I made a false floor bolted to the frame in at least 5 places. Going to carpet it to match the enclosure so it looks nice- also gives a great place to bolt things down to anywhere in back.
2 D3100s right now with the charger just sort of wedged in place so I can charge them easily. Very temporary, just needed them in for testing.
3/4 round over too.

This is where things are right now. I need to lay everything out- it would be easy but I want to keep it at 17" high (window line is around 20"). I might just have to go higher. It would be nice to design two boxes at around 7-8ft net so I can just recut the holes to fit the bigger woofers.

Anyway, just wanted to update. I'll start new build pics when the real build begins.
