This will be my second amp. My previous was a 1000w Kenwood, but it broke. So I'm looking for something that will give the perfect amount of juice to power my 2 12" kicker subs that rms at 400 (before i ran them at about 300-350) But I need help choosing because I really have no clue what to look for in amps, a buddy picked out my last one for me, but Id like to learn the stuff myself.

thanks

What model and voice coil configuration do you have with those subs?

the subs are CVR12's from the CompVR line. I don't know what the coil configuration is, or how to find it, haha sorry.

These are all the specs

If you have a DMM(Digital Multi Meter) take the positive end and stick it in the pos terminal on one VC of the sub, take the negitive end and do it on the same VC. Change the settings to read 200ohms, It should read around 2 or 4 but can be diffrent.
My 4ohm dvc subs read at 3.4ohm per coil.
If they are 2 ohm DVC you need an amp that does ~1000wrms at 2 ohms, if they are 4 ohm then you need about 1000wrms at 1 ohm. It may say on the subwoofer what they are also.

i dont have a DMM, so...
according to the manual the voice coil inductance is 5.51, the VC diameter is 2 (50.8) and the VC length is 1.3 (33.3), its dual 2 ohm and/or dual 4 ohm

would a Lanzar Vibe286 work? I know they say 4000w peak power, but i read its more like 900w. I'm not looking to spend a fortune if i can help it, but i still want something that is loud and sounds clear.

haha you have to know whether it is dual 2 ohm OR dual 4 ohm, which is it before you can determine what amps will work.....

and lanzar is crap btw.

OK well, what would be the best/reasonably priced amp to get if they were 2 ohm? and what if they were 4 ohm? Then if I cant figure out what ohm they are on my own, is their someplace i could go to have them checked? like say best buy?

i had 2 12inch CVR's in a kicker box, ported on the side with an old school rockford fosgate punch 500 and it was WAY louder than i thought it was going to be. very under rated amp imo.

No. Class AB amps are not ideal for subs. A class D amp will be more efficient.

For 2 dual 4 ohm subs you need an amp that is 1 ohm stable.

Something like this:

Thinking about getting another amp. Can anyone tell me about Hifonics amps. Thinking of replacing my current JL 1000.1 amp with a Hifonics Bx2008D amp. The Hifonics amp get 650-2000 watt/rms range. Which do you think is better? Anyone got an opinion?????

make your own thread... but to answer your question that would be a huge downgrade.

JL > hifonics by a lot.

Hifonics are also overrated, they do not do the power they claim.
