Underpowering a sub = blown?

New member Username: McdstvnPalm Coast, FL United States Post Number: 10 Registered: Feb-09 | I was reading reviews on some of the things I Was looking at, and a review said something that I wasn't quite sure was right, that underpowering an amp could cause it to blow... Anyone know if this is accurate? Sorry if it seems like a ridiculously simple question, I'm new to this |

The only way you can damage a sub when "underpowering" it is when you max the gain and/or bass boost to compensate for the lack of output. THAT will cause distortion and THAT is how you cause damage. It's been said so many times b4. If underpowering a speaker damages it then you would damage it everytime you turn your volume down. A smart/conservative setting on the BB and gain can actually allow you to run MORE than recommended power and a dumb setting on the same can cause damage at below recommended power. It's really all up to the man behind the curtain.  |

Bronze Member Username: McdstvnPalm Coast, FL United States Post Number: 11 Registered: Feb-09 | well, man behind curtain had his first system in and left all the settings where the guy who hooked it up left them... 2 10" http://www.evosoft.dk/xtreme/xtreme_subwoofers.html powered by jensen 300 watt amp, bridged to play each at 4 ohm.. = damage? lows halfway up highs turned all the way down and mids about a quarter up? I'm assuming that's what the third knob was. |
