My son's car was previously wired from the battery to a 400w amp with 8 gauge wire. He is now upgrading to a 1200 watt Audioque amp. Should I rip the 8 gauge out and replace with 4 gauge, or will the 8 gauge be able to handle this?

are you talking about 1200 rms?

if so then i would do 0ga.

1200 max, then 4ga.

Budget 0/4 but I would go with 0/1 in case of later upgrades.

Thanks, I'll do that. I assume 12 gauge will suffice from the amp to the sub? And should I use 0/1 if i decide to replace the batter cables and ground the alt. AQ1200 amp and RE SX 15 dual vc 2ohm sub. Going to wire it parallel to run amp at 1 ohm.

I've got 40' or so of ED 4ga blue power wire left over. Sell it to ya for $.50/ft plus shipping.

I also have 200+' of Audiopipe brown 8ga power wire as well. Sell that for $.25/ft plus shipping.

Can't beat that.

ya, 12awg is fine for sub wire. And if your doing the big 3, mite as well use 0/1 and be done with it.
Nice little set up.

thanks, but I think it's best if we go with the 0 gauge, bat. to amp and 12 gauge, amp to sub.

@Paul

Have any 12, 14 or 16awg wire for sale...like 150feet spool or something.

Looking at wire for my home theatre and 200feet of wire would be nice but 8awg would be overkill!

Thanks!

I do have 2 100' rolls of 18ga speaker wire. Brand new. Problem is due to the weight and shipping costs you would almost certainly find it cheaper locally.

Wouldn't make sense.

take a look at knukonceptz.com
they have good pricing on wire for both power and speaker.

I used their 14AWG bi-wire to hand make my home speaker cables using gold banana plugs at each end between the Onkyo AV receiver and the KEF 104/2 and Martin Logan Odyssey mains. Really nice wire for much MUCH cheaper than your local shops sell the same stuff.

Personally id do 2 runs of Pauls 4awg wire, it would cost less than 1/0 and its easier to work with. :-)

i believe the AQ1200 takes 4 ga. power wire max.
I would still do 0/1 ga to a fused distro. or something similar.
