JL W015 vs. RE SX15

Hi guys. I'm starting to build my 2nd system ever in my 1999 Cadillac DeVille that I got from my uncle as a graduation present and I want something that's gonna hit hard but still sound good. All I have so far is; an Alpine IVA-W505 head unit that I asked for, that I got installed a few months ago(also as a present, hopefully I picked out a good one).

So right now my question is about which subs to get. My friend wants to sell me his 2 JL W015's in a small sealed carpeted box that he has, for $300 (which he purchased from a shop on the ghetto side of town a few years back) which he claims is a steal. But I was browsing the web & forums and was thinking about maybe a RE SX15 in a semi-large (4cu.ft. or so) ported box. However, upon telling him this, he said that JL is the "chronic" of subs and they can't be beat, period. And also that 2 15's will kill one 15", especially 2 JL's. This isn't the first time I've herd this much praise about JL, and I was wondering if it's true or not? I assume it is, but I just want to make sure before I buy anything. Oh, and I want to try to stay below $1000 for everything (sub, amp, & wiring).

So yea, any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

the sx15 is 10x the sub of the w0.. But they are totally different. The sx is a spl based sub and the w0 is the lowest jl model (TMA subs excluded). I would take the SX any day and twice on sunday..

Agreed^^^. The sx15 would be able to handle more power than the JL's combined. 1 15" will do the job and they sound very nice. I have a feeling your friend is just pitching you those lines because he wants to get rid of those subs. Don't fall for it.

As a whole JL and RE may be comparable in the quality of their subs, but for a JL to compare to an RE SX you'd have to go up to at LEAST the w3 line

Comparing a W0 to an SX is like comparing a Ford Escort to a Chevy Camero.

Ehhhhhh......

Get the SX if you have enough box space.

JL W7 would be on par with an SX. Anything else no.

ok take it from these guys, they know what they're saying, and i also have input:

I used to own 4 12" W0s. SQ was unbeat among all of my friends.

Yet I had friends that only had 2 10s in their car that got LOUDER than the JLs. I'd personally go for the SX, and never again a W0.

ppl shouldnt compare low power handling series subs to higher - its like comparing a pick up truck to a dump truck

u can have 4 low power subs & a guy with a single sub will still cover u

i always rec the biggest batt that can fit in the stand ...
