I have 2 12" Alpine Type R subs, running off of a Alpine MRP-M1000 amp (1100rms). I currently have a prefab ported box but i want to build myself a custom ported box, but i need some ideas, how many cubic feet should the box be for 2 and what should i tune the port at? I like deep loud bass lots.I just need some help with my box design

I have 2 12" r's also. I built a box to 3.8cu at 35hz before sub displacement. Its loud and destroys low notes. It also sounds good on any type of music.

If you have the room go with 4cuft(after sub displacement) @35hz.

Do you need any links to help you design?

Its really up to you. If you have the space go with 4-5cuft. And if you want to lean more towards SQ and get lower bass tune to 32hz If you want more of an SQL set up but still with low bass go with 35hz.

Either way you cant go wrong.

what is the main differnece between SQL and SQ like im only 16 years old and this is my second system, kinda new into this stuff. like i listen to rap, currently my prefab box is 2.8 cubic feet tuned at 38hz, i want it to be louder and hit harder

make the box bigger and you should see a gain. SQL is sound quality loud and SQ is sound quality. SQ pretty much means more accurate bass. If you think the bass you are playing right now sounds pretty accurate for the type of music you listen to(other than not loud enough)and if you are happy with how low it gets then use the 38hz tuning and just make a larger box. If you want lower/more accurate bass then tune lower.
Usually you will lose some SPL when you tune lower.

so if i want it to be louder and hit harder, i should go with like a 32hz?

Its hard to tell... at least for me.
you'll get louder just by giving the subs the right amount of airspace.

Generally:
32hz will give you more sound quality and lower bass
38hz will lose some sound quality and low bass, but it will be louder.

What is the difference between hitting harder and louder?

That why I like the middle ground of somewhere between 34-37hz you get a little bit of both.

From what you have said yeah, I would go with that. If you build the box right you will be happy.
