Can I isolate my batteries without the isolator?

Hi again guys... I have a battery isolator installed in my truck to charge the battery in my camper. It is the diode type, not the relay type. It creates quite a voltage drop when my music is going, because my amp draws pretty close to the max current rating of the isolator. I think it would be better if I didn't have the isolator between the bat and the alternator. Is there some way I can hook the main battery directly to the alternator while still isolating the other battery? Can I hook the amp up to the alternator instead of the battery? Seems like there would be too much alternator noise that way... Should I just break down and buy the relay type? I'm a cheap-o and would like to not do that if I don't have to.

sorry to say this, but you'll have to buy the relay type. diodes are very passive and won't give you the juice you need.
