'shouldn't the wire size be the same for power and ground?"

4 in, 0/1 out is ok.
0/1 in, 4 out is bad.

ya, 8 is a little big for the remote. Try a 12 awg . Maybe its losing voltage from the hu to the amp with that size wire.

dl the manual and see if theres a hu on off setting. check rcas, check gain. try jumping the rem out at the amp and see if it works.

i hadnt thought of that with the rem wire like marc said"8 is a little big for the remote. Try a 12 awg . Maybe its losing voltage from the hu to the amp with that size wire." good possibilaty. thats rediculasly large for a rem wire.

"just stop working and no voltage on the amp output can figuer out how to c if im getting any power through the rcas"

Kinda rules out the rca's misplugged. Unless the audio Gremlins sneaked in there and switched them when yous wasnt looking.
To test rca voltage, put the dmm on the pin and ground of it .
Unplug from the amp when the hu is playing and see if theres voltage in them. Should be some low reading, like 2-8 volts or so. varied.

But if the amps on, rca's have voltage, sub is good, then its the amp.
