if u run a sweep that will get u the peak freq with the set up u have.
what i have been told u can do is run a sweep with a sealed box. then what ever freq is peak u make a ported box tuned to that freq. then ur box and car will be the same and u will get a higher spl.

Build yourself a sealed box, run a sweep with the sub running in that box, whatever hz your highest db reading is at is your peak frequency.

sorry but ive been told differently, you run a sweep with the sealed box, that tells you the sealed enclosures peak, then you run the sweep again but with box right outside the door of the car

There is more science that goes into finding the real resonant frequency.

I remember Zac Davis saying something about tuning an octave above or below what you measure.

if it was me i would run it with a sealed box and tune it lower by a few hz then cut off parts of the port little by little and the u will find it. that is what i am going to do anyways.
if any one knows a better way let me know!

thats exactly what i did.. i figurd id post here since my thread go taken over ... i used the subs and box i was gong to use port but i left it sealed.. ran a sweep.. found the resonant at that time.. then i installed my ports and ran another low volume sweep to see if it was peaking in more than one place.. it was peaking at 31 and car peaked at 34 sealed.. so figuring there coule be 3hz difference in the tuning calc.. i made more ports about 2 inches longer and shaved them down untill it only peaked at 34...

not really... i have owned a mazda 3 trunk car.. and now this volvo... both of which peaked in the low 30s with no deadening.. also a friend of mine has a nissan sentra and it also peakes in the mid 30s.. it not uncommon for a trunk car to have a low resonant especially with no modifications or deadening...
