I have an old passive 8in bazooka tube that I'm looking to get a sub for. This will be my backup sub for when I take out my twin 12" w6s. Its about half a cubic foot in volume, and tuned to like 39htz from what bazooka says. Now I cant decide if I want to stick with JL and get an 8w3 or go with JBL's 8in GTO sub. I have also considered getting the 8in Dayton Reference HF sub, or the Tang Band W8-740P. I've heard both the JL and the JBL, never the Tang Band or the Dayton but reviews for them are awesome(plus they are cheaper in price than the JL or JBL). Any suggesions??

I've used both the Tang Band 8" and the Dayton Ref 8". I like the Dayton better. I've got the 8" off the Bash 300w plate amp in a small HT setup. Sure doesn't sound like an 8". Very pleased with it.

The SS RL-i 8" is a great choice as well.

Does the Dayton Ref 8" compare SPL-wise to the Tang Band and JL 8w1 or 8w3?

I'm looking for two strong 8" woofers, but I'm limited to 4" of mounting depth, of which the Tang Band and JL 8w3 both exceed.

If you can work 4.1" I would go with the Diamond D3. Great little sub and it would be ok in that tube.

I'm actually looking at doing the same thing soon myself. I may run a 850.1 to 2 Sonance 8's and see how those puppies sound. Got to keep the weight down in the car, gas sucks.
