With limited space I came up with 3.2cf @ 38hz w/ 46.5''sq port area.

Google Sketchup:

I haven't designed many boxes so if anyone sees anything wrong I would like some input.:-)

Guys, what if we made the box 31x17x18 external dimensions.

29.5 x 15.5 x 16.5 internal dimensions.

Thats about 4.35cuft internal before sub and port displacement.

You could make your own 4 inch aero ports and run three of them tuned to 40 hz at 13.75 inches long. That would give you 3.5 inches from the back wall if the 16.5 could be your depth. The ports would take up aprox. .30 cubic feet and aprox .25 for the sub that would put you at 3.80 cubic feet net.

Heres a tutorial that will help explain it but apparently the links dont work. You could do a google search to find other examples

Heres how to make a mold.

i like sean's idea with the aeroports. less displacement so he has more cuft for his sub.
