What Gauge Wire to Subs?

hey guys never thought it mattered but more and more videos i see, i see huge wire coming off the subs, when i wired my subs i used small wire 18 gauge i believe, thanks

12AWG is plenty unless you are running massive amounts of power and/or long runs.

Don't see too much 8ga in speaker wire form. Usually in power wire yeah but in speaker wire?

Not saying it isn't out there mind you.

what do u mean power wire? like amp power wire, or the positive wire goin to the sub

Power wire as in single line wire. Speaker wire is usually a two line cable, one for positive and one for negative. Anything larger than 10ga (usually) is single line cable.


I've sold 8ga as speaker wire b4 but like Brad said used only as high power or long runs.

Some asians use 8ga for speakers Paul, to compensate for their tiny weiners.

I use 12ga since 12 divides 1200 watts nicely...

i use 14 or 12ga I get it for 254 cent a foot at Audioshop in Warner Robins, GA. its very nice wire. better than paying almost 1$ per foot from KnuKonceptz and 5$shipping and haveing to wait for it. i wrather use AuidioShop. i've heard of using 8Ga wire but its not comon.

I used 8 gauge on my single 12 I used to have running 1500 watts rms.
