What's the load on the amp? Is it getting real hot when you've got it on?

Does it happen right away or just after playing for a while?

Measure resistance on speaker terminals with DMM, what is it.

Measure voltage on the power and ground terminals with the amp on, what is it.

Need to know that before I can tell you whats wrong with it.

It stops after a few seconds unless i turn the volume up. Then sometimes it just goes straight into protect.

looks like you have an 80 amp alternator in that car so it very well could be insufficient electrical as was mentioned by Mike Loudon

What size would you recommend sean?

do some testing like M.S. asked for with a multi meter just to make sure everything is ok but as far as the alternator size id say check with kevin holden and see what he can get for you....but your going to want a pretty big alt with that amp and a second amp for your highs and your vehicles basic electrical needs and kevins alternators also have pretty high idle amperage which is good

If you don't troubleshoot it you will be guessing forever. It can be any number of things.

Figure out what the problem is before you go and drop a couple hundred on an alt.

I would guess at the problem being the ground or the amps settings. Turn the gain all the way down and see if it goes into protect.

If i turn the gain all the way down and it goes into protect, what would that mean?

Thanks for the help guys!

That would mean that the gain setting isn't the problem.

say you maxed out the gain, on a poor charging it could go into protect. By turning the gain down and the amp still going into protect this tells you that you're gain setting isn't the problem which in many cases it is.

Put a battery charger on your battery start the engin up and then turn the amp on, that will give you extra power just to give it a test and shouldn't cost you much.

So I just hooked everything up and made sure it was all connected right. I turned the cd player on and the protect on the amp would come on for maybe a second. It did this multiple times, after turning off the cd player and turning it back on.

eh it sounds like a bad ground. sand off all paint where you are grounding it. also maybe a smaller fuse?

Idk. Could the fuse really be causing the/a problem?

no. im just saynig a smaller one would be better.

where is your gain set to anyway? and i think maybe a battery in the back isnt a bad idea. though these amps are relitively eff. it ould be better. and a ho alty would be a good step into the future. to say your only going to stick with 1500 watts in the future would be a blatant lie lol

I'm trying to hold out on getting an HOalt until i get a new car..

If you want to drive up to my house i can look at it tomorrow. To be completely honest tho its probably ur alt/battery/electrical all together.

80amp alt plus stock battery = no go on 1500rms.

Lemme know what u think and i can toss the amp in my car tomorrow to make sure its not the amp with the problem.

Oh shiat. Okay man. I can do that. Yeah I'll bring everything for the setup. (You can't laugh at my install, lmao, I know you're going to.) But idk, truthfully im going with it being the electrical.

"I turned the cd player on and the protect on the amp would come on for maybe a second."

Once the saz powers up the protect light should come on for like less than a second, then you should hear the relay click on, then the bright blue power light goes on.

Just a FYI:-)

K, just messed with it some more. And it's def the electrical. Made sure the ground was working fine, it was. And it was working, but I could only turn it up so much. Once it hits about 45 out of 62 for volume, it goes into protect.
