Alright, i'm still struggling to narrow it down.

car on - power wire: 5 V, car off: 10V (roughly)
car on - remote wire: 4 V

my grounds measure a 0.00

Now....when i turn on my car, my amps click into protect for like 1 second and then the protect light goes off. the eq only has a power light and it doesn't move.

idk what's going on. it sounds like i'm shorting out somewhere, but i have no idea where. i followed my power and grounds and they're not touching each other or any metal anywhere.

any ideas?

i assume the power wire you are talking about is the hu's power wire?

if so try connecting the hu power wire directly to the battery.

no i meant my amps power wire. my HU powers up perfectly no problems. the amps and EQ do nothing.

oh ok. so at the battery the voltage reads good then.

you should get some new cables and try it out.

yea, at the batt and after my in-line fuse, everything reads exactly what it should. with the car off, everything still reads as it should. once i turn the car on though, voltage drops (which is the opposite of what you would think should happen)

i've tried replacing my remote wire relay and replaced my ANL fuse, but that changed nothing.

hell, with the car off, all the way to the amps and my eq, my power wire is reading over 10 volts

oh ok then its not the cables. that is just weird. i have never heard anything like that.

bump for someone that knows.

i mean could my RCA's have a short in them that's causing the amps to go into protect?? it seems possible, but entirely unprobable. it seems weird that the RCA's would just conk out randomly one day. bump, thanks for the input chad

your amps are going in to protect cause the voltage is low.

if you feel the rca is the problem then try changing it.

o ok, i didn't know that's why the amps were going into protect. didn't realize they went into protect due to low voltage.

IF your grounds are in fact good, problem has to be in the power wire......

that's what i'm thinking....

does power wire get old (2 years old)

bc for some reason, in between my inline fuse and my distrobution blocks, im losing almost 10 volts for no apparent reason?

voltage after inline fuse (car on) = 13.9 volts
voltage at distrobution block (car on) = 5.5 volts

Here's how to test that:

Put your amps to the closest power source and run a power and ground directly from the source using the biggest wire you have around to your amp. If the voltage is fine the the amp is fine, it is defiantly your power wire since you are losing voltage. It surely is not your ground since you are losiing 10 volts after the distro block.

Maybe also try it without the distro block. The problem could lie there also.

you mean like take my amp and put it a foot from my batt?

i think the amp is fine bc nothings powering on, neither amp nor my eq

Yes Cal. If the voltage reads fine, and the amp keeps fine, then you know that the problem could be your power wire or distro block.

just a shot in the dark maybe your distro cracked from improper casting? and thats causing a short?

"voltage after inline fuse (car on) = 13.9 volts
voltage at distrobution block (car on) = 5.5 volts"
Replace the power wire and /or D-block. You should not be losing 9 volts in
